Macadamia, the only Australian native commercialized crop, is highly valued for its nuts. A dramatic increase in world production is forecasted. Being an open pollinated crop, multiplication of the stock is done via vegetative propagation with limited success. We have developed in vitro plant multiplication system for Macadamias. This is the first report of successful regeneration of macadamia in tissue culture system. Use of in vitro technology will enhance the success of the breeding program by rapid introduction of new varieties tot the Macadamia industry and ensure a competitive edge in the international market.
